The April 12th event at Coolidge Park was sponsored and organized by the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Chattanooga Class of 2007-08 and Outdoor Chattanooga. The event was to promote local outdoor recreation and exploration for children. Many local outdoor recreation vendors participated, including TRGT.
We sponsored a wonderful craft project for the kids – peanut butter pine cone bird feeders! Bill Marion collected three trash bags full of beautiful Loblolly (Pinus taeda) pine cones from Birmingham, Alabama. We hit the ground running at 10AM and didn’t stop until 4PM that afternoon. All said and done, we went through 50 pounds of peanut butter, 30 pounds of birdseed, and just about all of the pinecones!
A special thanks to Tara and Alexis Williams, Caitlin Wambsganss, Bill Marion, Devon Birge, and James Combs for assisting with the bird feeders while staff members, Julie Beach and Jennifer Sexton, educated parents about the Trust and its ongoing mission to protect the Tennessee River Gorge.
It was a beautiful day – definitely a Saturday well spent! Thanks to all for coming out and getting sticky with TRGT volunteers and staff!
